I'm not about to debate it. But I figure an event that occurs once every 26,000 years should be at least a some kind of deadline. Maybe consider it a time to be ready to let go of old ways of thinking. At least, be prepared to survive on your own (this could be required at ANY time).
As far as astronomy is concerned, it is the solstice and an alignment of the sun to the middle of the milky way.
As far as society is concerned, we could create our own disaster with panic or crazy religious cults attempting to beam themselves to the moon.
As far as energy is concerned, we don't know.
Other areas to consider, magnetic fields.
